I want to buy a scooter , do you have a scooter class for me?

Yes, beginning in April 2009, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Motorcycle Program will offer a Scooter Basic RiderCourse (SBRC). The SBRC class will use scooters ONLY and upon successful completion, you will receive your motorcycle license. The scooter BRC is 15 hours in length, the same as the motorcycle BRC .

Can I use my scooter in the BRC?
No, only Program scooters. No personal scooters or motorcycles are permitted.

What size scooter needs a Class "M" motorcycle license?
If your scooter is a 50 cc engine size or above, you will need a motorcycle license.

No, you can view the schedule by clicking on the link below labeled "Enroll Now". Look for a currently offered course or category that interests you and click on that category to start looking at the open seats and dates available.

Do you furnish motorcycles and helmets?
Yes, we furnish the scooters, motorcycle & helmets for the Jump Start and Basic Riding Courses only.

How do I replace my DMV completion certificate / waiver or Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Completion Card ?
The MSF completion card can ONLY be replaced 24 months or less from the date of issue. The DMV license/waiver completion certificate can only be replaced 12 months or less from the original date issued. Go to: Card Replacement

What is Jump Start? (JS)
Jump Start is our optional Pre course before taking the BRC. 3 hours of familiarization.


Groups of 6 or less - with personalized attention. We furnish the motorcycles & helmets. One or two RiderCoaches. No certificate is issued. NO DRIVING TEST, NO WRITTEN TEST Come out and become comfortable.

Which course gives me a motorcycle Class "M" endorsement to be added to my car license?
The BRC or SBRC are the ONLY classes offered to get your Class "M" endorsement:

What is the cost of the BRC?
Typical 3 day BRC 24 student class is $165 total cost
2 day special BRC classes are $165 or $175 total cost (check specific dates for correct cost)

Do I need to know how to ride a bicycle?
Yes! If you have not recently ridden a bicycle, you may be unable to pass the Basic RiderCourse (BRC or SBRC). Balance is VERY important!
You will be required to withdraw from the class if unsafe to yourself or others. No refunds, transfers or credits.

How long is the Basic RiderCourse (BRC or SBRC) ?
The BRC is 15-18 hours depending on weather, how each class develops, etc:

Our typical three day BRC is 2 1/2 hours of classroom Friday evening, 5 hours driving Saturday morning & 2 1/2 hours of classroom on the same Saturday afternoon, Sunday has 5 hours driving in the morning with graduation between 12p - 1p

Our special two day BRC is 2 1/2 hours of classroom each day in the mornings with 5 hours of driving each day in the afternoons.    Your graduation is in the evening (5p - 6p) of the second day.


Do I get a motorcycle license if I successfully complete the BRC or SBRC ?
Yes. Upon successful completion, a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Completion Card, a Virginia DMV Completion Certificate and a 30 day temporary motorcycle Class "M" license will be issued. The Virginia DMV Completion Certificate will waive BOTH the knowledge & skills test at any Virginia DMV for one year from the date issued on the certificate. The Virginia DMV Completion Certificate will also grant the student (19 years of age or older) a 30-day temporary Class "M" license to drive a motorcycle from the date of the successful completion of any Virginia BRC.


Do I need a learner's permit to attend the Jump Start or any Basic RiderCourse?
You must have a car learner's permit or car drivers license to participate in any course offered.
A Valid car license from any State will permit you to enroll in the Jump Start, BRC, IRC or ERC.

I have an out of State MSF card, will Virginia DMV accept it?
No, Virginia's DMV will NOT accept out of State Motorcycle Safety Foundation Completion Cards.

I want to operate my motorcycle on Government property. How do I get the MSF Completion Card to drive on a military base?
You can enroll in any BRC or the "combined Intermediate & Experience course" to obtain your MSF card which will allow you to operate a motorcycle on any U S Military installation or other Government property.

I'm in the military and have an out of State MSF card , will Virginia accept my MSF card ?
No, Virginia's DMV will NOT accept out of State MSF cards. Military personnel will be required to successfully complete a Virginia Motorcycle program to obtain a MSF card.
